The facts

1. Rahul explicitly says “BSNL bech diya”. That is factually wrong. A Parliamentary Committee report states that BSNL is a 100% Government of India-owned PSU.107
2. In fact, the Government has approved three revival packages to BSNL amounting to approx. Rs. 3.22 Lakh crores. These packages cover capital infusion, debt restructuring, viability gap funding for rural telephony, and the provision of 4G/5G spectrum, among other measures. PPP concessions at airports and ports are also not synonymous with outright sale of the underlying public asset.108
3. After nearly 18 years of losses, BSNL returned to quarterly profitability under the Modi Government. It posted a ₹262 crore net profit in Q3 FY2024-25, followed by another ₹280 crore profit in Q4, marking its first back-to-back profitable quarters in 18 years.109110
4. In Sep 2025, BSNL launched its first fully indigenous 4G (5G-ready) network and the commissioning of nearly 98,000 Swadeshi 4G towers.111
