The facts

  1. AI is changing the nature of IT employment, but it has not closed the corporate job market.
  2. AI is creating new categories of employment. Nomura’s review found approximately 1.31 lakh jobs created against 61,000 displaced across Asia, with India recording a net-positive impact. New opportunities are emerging in data annotation, linguistics, AI-enabled IT services, cloud, cybersecurity and specialised technical roles.53
  3. India is also building capacity across the entire AI ecosystem, covering applications, models, chips, infrastructure and energy. The CCI report cited in the material puts India's AI market at USD 7.63 billion, up from USD 2.97 billion, and projects it to reach USD 131.31 billion by 2032.54
  4. The Modi Government's response has been to prepare India's workforce for this transition rather than treat AI as a threat to employment. FutureSkills PRIME is providing training in AI and other emerging technologies, while PM Modi announced from the Red Fort on India's 80th Independence Day a target to train one crore youth in AI skills within one year.55
