The facts
Rahul Gandhi deliberately relies on the NFHS-5 figure of 29.3%, even though the latest NFHS-6 data (2023–24) is now available.128
More importantly, the latest NFHS-6 shows significant progress. The comparable figure has now fallen to 22.3%, with 24.4% in rural areas and 17.5% in urban areas. By continuing to use the older NFHS-5 figure without acknowledging NFHS-6, the claim presents an outdated picture of the current situation.129
He also leaves out the Congress-led UPA-era data. NFHS-3 (2005–06), conducted during the UPA period, recorded 37.2% of ever-married women experiencing spousal physical and/or sexual violence.
Since the Modi Government came to power, the NFHS data shows a clear decline in spousal physical and/or sexual violence: from 37.2% in NFHS-3 (2005–06) during the UPA era to 22.3% in NFHS-6 (2023–24).130
That means the comparable indicator has declined by nearly 15 percentage points over this period.
